Demonstration and Discussion repeat, 10am, Wednesday 23 October, at 75 Felton Mathew Avenue

This is a free session for SeniorNet members held bi-monthly on the third Wednesday of the month.  Bookings are not required for these sessions.

As many members missed the first time we ran this session on 16 October, we ran it again on Wednesday 23 October and were delighted with a very good attendance.

Noel Thompson gave a demonstration the web-site “Need to know home insurance calculator“. Most insurance policies are ceasing “Replacement Cover” on renewal, renewing instead on a “sum insured” figure. It is advisable to do a check to ensure this approximates the replacement value of your home.  Noel showed us how to use this free insurance calculator website to help estimate the likely cost of rebuilding your home as a check on the sum proposed by your insurance. He explained some of detail needed and answered questions sparking a lively discussion.

After the demonstration and morning tea, Sue La Roche and Wayne Power gave members a further demonstration of the SNEB Log In process on the new web-site, and the demise of the pesky underscore in the SNEB ID which was giving many SNEB members some stress!

From Wednesday 16 October, the SNEB ID, now known as your Username, is your first name (capitalized first letter, the rest lower case) followed by your membership number – no spaces.  For example Johannes519

We continued with a few more tips about the new web-site and some help in composing and managing passwords.
One such question was the creation of passwords for MS Word files, particularly MS Word 2007-2013. Instructions for this are now in a FAQ topic on the Guides – General tips – FAQ page.

Vigorous discussion kept everyone interested until after 12 noon!

    • Hello Maureen,

Noel gave a very interesting and useful talk and used his own house’s data to demonstrate how to use the program. We may come up with a more detailed article later but, for now, you might want to click on http://need2know.org.nz/ and explore it yourself. You’ll need to have measured the various floor and path areas before you get to the end but you can always come back to it.

      Wayne
