On Wed. 20 May, Bill Jamieson, member and publisher of Retirement Planning books, presented as an in-house demo of two Excel spreadsheets showing details of a typical:
Budget Plan – he set out a working example template showing an overall budget plan for factored life expectancy, total financial assets, income and expenditure per year showing a net surplus/deficit per line year and resultant asset position at end of plan. Adjustments were made showing the effect on the schedule for changes in inflation projections, lower interest on term deposits and the effect of major costs such as travel and motor vehicle purchases to the overall plan. Periodically comparing the portfolio to the budget projections gives some control to the long term expenditures.
Investment Portfolio – the other spreadsheet set out the various types of investments that make up an investment portfolio listing each asset, its cost, updated valuation and income earned with examples of how variations can be updated to keep relevant.
Conclusion – several members present indicated an interest in pursuing a course specific to “Excel Retirement”
In discussion some viewed that such a course as shown was probably more for those with some Excel experience, and the course should be split into those with Excel knowledge and those new to Excel.
Those new to Excel may alternatively enrol for the Excel Basic course as a precursor to following up with Excel Retirement.
Please indicate your interest in any of this to Sue La Roche, Course Manager, or Contact Us via the website.
